The For-All Healthy Living Centre
The For-All Healthy Living Centre (HLC) was officially opened on 4th August 2005. It is a centre that serves not only the Bournville estate but also the adjoining areas of the Oldmixon Estate, the Coronation Estate and the Potteries - hence the name For- (pun on Four-) All.

The centre comprises of FIVE partners, namely:

North Somerset Council - who provide community services and access to council services through Council Connect. These include a library service, and any other service that the council would provide at County Hall.

South Weston Community Association provide community services for the local residents of the four estates. The association runs a lunch club in a purpose built Day Centre wing of the HLC aimed at older people. In addition a variety of local groups use the large community hall. Sprung-floored, it is used frequently for Tea dances, sports activities and children's activities, in addition to a huge variety of community projects. The Community Association also runs a drop-in café in the foyer of the HLC that provides morning snacks and lunches for any  HLC visitors.

Children's Centre (Formerly Surestart) provide care and education for children under 4 and their families and communities to improve children's social and emotional development, health and opportunities to learn.
They have their own classrooms and toilet facilities, and a safe, fenced off outdoor play area complete with safety rubberised flooring

North Somerset Primary Care Trust run the Health Centre within the HLC. There are a team of doctors and nurses serving the community providing all forms of primary care. Health visitor services, counselling services and specialist clinics are all based at this end of the building.

St Andrew's Church offers opportunities for worship, prayer, fellowship and learning about the Christian Faith. The church is open daily with someone on duty there to offer friendship over a cuppa!

In addition to these services, the Citizen's Advice Bureau, the local councillor, the local police officers and the local MP all have regular surgeries there for consultation. There is a 'No-worries' clinic, Credit Union representation, and a large variety of Adult Education opportunities based at the HLC.

All the areas of the building are self-contained and independent. In addition to these areas of the building the HLC provides meeting rooms and conference facilities that can be rented out to those wishing to have their meetings and conferences in a warm, friendly environment.

Who runs the Centre?

The HLC is run by a Company - called the For-All Healthy Living Company. It is a company limited by guarantee, run by the local residents and representatives of the five partners.

Each partner provides one director to sit on the board, plus resident directors who are elected to sit alongside them. There are more resident directors than partner directors meaning that the residents have overall control of the decisions made at board meetings.

The board aims to:

  • Create an open, welcoming community building
  • Bring Local services under one roof
  • Work with local people to develop facilities, activities and services which will improve their quality of life.

Surrounding Area

In addition to a large amount of visitor parking, the surrounding Coniston Green has been developed into an outdoor facility for all ages.

There re quiet areas to sit, grass on which to play, and all weather play areas provided for older children and teenagers - complete with large-scale climbing equipment, swings etc, an enclosed area for younger children containing appropriate play equipment, and an enclosed all weather pitch.
